Hi,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am a keen runner and member of Farsley Flyers running club and am working to increase the distances I run. My first big challenge is to do a half marathon and at the same time raise money for a fantastic cause. I have chosen the Bowel & Cancer Research charity purposely because I strongly believe how important their continual support for bowel research work is.
I have friends and family who have all been affected by bowel cancer and other bowel diseases, so we need to keep the research work going and continue to find better treatments for patients in the future. I shall also be raising awareness of the symptoms of these conditions too as I believe too many people leave it too late before seeing the doctor. My dear uncle was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer 6 years ago and was given fantastic treatment by St James’ University hospital and he still goes to the Bowel Support meeting once a month to help others as his way of saying thanks to the hospital.
Simon, my friend’s husband, had stage 4 bowel cancer 5 years ago and he’s thriving today after receiving treatment.
My runner friend has been diagnosed fairly recently and is currently undergoing treatment. Martin gave me a full support when I wanted to increase my running pace so, by doing this, it will be way of supporting Martin through this great charity.
Also two of my friends (both in their early twenties) have ulcerative colitis which has had a major impact on their lives. Bowel & Cancer Research also help to fund research into non-cancerous diseases of the bowel, including ulcerative colitis, and this is important too.
I will be starting to train for the half marathon distance in the New Year and my target is to complete it in 2hr 15mins
Please donate as much as you can for this fantastic charity and thank you for your support.
