I have chosen to run for this charity for two reasons.

1) My friend Ruth was just 34 when she died from this terrible disease, just days before her sons 6 birthday in June 2014. She left behind her husband Tony and her three children; Isaac, Imogen, 4 and Hope 1. Ruth’s death has had a profound effect on me, more so than any other to date. Not just because of what she left behind, but in the 4 or 5 times I saw Ruth after her terminal diagnoses she was so so dignified and brave. Even the last time myself, Alison and Jo saw her in hospital she was talking about hosting a BBQ at her house when she came out of hospital, sadly this was not to be. In the months before she died, I promised Ruth that I would run a marathon to raise money for a bowel cancer charity and she promised that she would come and watch me if she could, so Ruth I am keeping to my side of the bargain and I know you will be keeping to yours, keeping me safe while I am training in the dark and willing me over that finishing line in April!

2) I have a number of family members who are survivors of this disease (you know who you are xx) and without this research they would not be here.

I am therefore asking people to dig deep, this is a massive challenge for me, one I am going to embrace and take great pride in remembering Ruth as I feel privileged to have known her, knowing that I am doing my bit to help ensure that in the future other families will not have to go through what Ruth and her family had too.
