Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. We are raising money for Bowel & Cancer Research because I believe the research projects they support are very important and create a future free from bowel cancer or chronic disease.

Last year Owen (Ali's husband and John's brother in law) was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer with a mutation called BRAF. He under went surgery and intensive Chemotherapy with the hope that it would hold the disease at bay and give him longer with us and his little boy, Rudy. This is called palliative treatment, as the mutation meant that the prognosis was poor and quite resistive to treatment.

Unbelievably he responded exceptionally well to the chemo. At the mid-point scan, the disease was considerably shrunk back, and at the end of Chemo CT scan, there didn't seem to be any further evidence of the cancer, so he was sent for a second PET scan (which is unusual). The result of the PET scan showed that there is no visible cancer!

At the same time as Owen was undergoing treatment, his father (our father in law) was also diagnosed with bowel cancer and treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Thankfully this was discovered much earlier though routine screening and the treatment was given in the hope of curing the disease.

Owen remains under the care of the oncology team and has to be re-scanned every three months as he is still classed as having stage 4 bowel cancer. We are so thankful that the treatment work so well, we know that the road ahead means that bowel cancer is going to be part of our life for a long time to come, but this would not have been possible at all with out research, and so John and I feel duty bound to torture ourselves with a 100 mile bike ride to raise as much money as we can for the essential work that Bowel and cancer do.

It’s a great cause, and your donation will help them achieve even more. Donating is easy, quick and secure.

Please share with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter – and elsewhere – so we can reach our target and together we can help Bowel & Cancer Research do more. Thank you!
