I am running the Windermere Marathon in less than two weeks time. It is my second marathon but, believe me, the prospect of running 26.2 miles does not seem any easier and neither is the training! I was not going to ask for donations at first as I wanted to run for the sheer challenge. (?!) But I have been inspired to fundraise for Bowel & Cancer Research thanks to the bravery of some very special people in my life who have successfully battled bowel cancer and other forms of cancer. My wonderful mum Maureen and uncle Michael have both been diagnosed with bowel cancer- less than a year ago in my mum’s case. They have been through a lot, but thanks to the excellent medical care they received at Preston and Blackburn hospitals, they endured with grace and good humour and are both doing really well. Uncle Mike has the all clear and my mum has recently been discharged from oncology. My mother-in-law Paulette has never let cancer stand in her way also, having defeated breast cancer several times thanks to a great attitude and (perhaps) a daily G and T!

Sadly cancer is something that touches the lives of far too many of us. Bowel cancer is the third most prevalent cancer and the biggest killer after lung cancer, but it does not need to be. Survival rates are good with early detection rates but sometimes people do not report symptoms early enough due to embarrassment. Please sponsor me if you can to find further research and prevention of bowel and other forms of cancer. Thank you x
