I joined Bowel & Cancer Research in October 2018, after graduating from Loughborough University with BSc (Hons) in Communication and Media Studies. As Events and Communications Officer my role is based around recruiting and supporting all of our wonderful fundraisers. I also manage our website and social media platforms, creating engaging content and updating our supporters with recent news from Bowel & Cancer Research.

My experiences at University, from my course and extra-curricular activities, inspired me to work in the charity sector. I was heavily involved in Loughborough Students’ Rag, the charity section of the Students’ Union which raises over £1 million each year for charities. I represented my halls of residence and was then the Social Media and Marketing Coordinator on the Rag committee, organising a range of fundraising events and promoting them to students. I also took part in several bucket collections in London, something I hope to introduce to Bowel & Cancer Research’s fundraising plans.

I love that my role at Bowel & Cancer Research is so varied as I have a wide range of responsibilities. Building relationships with our fundraisers and hearing their stories and motivations for supporting the charity is particularly inspiring as they all have a personal link to the research that we fund. Our fundraisers take part in a huge variety of fundraising events. Whether they’re taking part in marathons, skydives or holding their own event like a bake sale or pub quiz, I am here to support and encourage them to ensure that they raise as much as possible to help us fund vital bowel research.
