Charlie has developed a national and international profile in his areas of interest (mainly neurogastroenterology and benign coloproctology) with over 10 grant awards as Principle Investigator, 50 peer-reviewed original research articles, 20 published reviews and 40 invited national and international lectures.

In April 2011 he moved his clinical commitment entirely to Barts and the London NHS Trust where he further aligned his clinical practice in chronic bowel disorders (especially constipation and faecal incontinence) with translational research objectives within the Academic Surgical, Colorectal development and GI physiology Units (Centre for Digestive Diseases, Blizard Institute Of Cell and Molecular Science).

He is the current Director of the National Bowel Research Centre and is Adminstrative Chair of the Bowel & Cancer Research Grants Committee.
