What do you do to celebrate World Egg Day?

Sue Tyley, founder of Purely Pickled Eggs, organised a egg-themed quiz that was held in pubs nationwide.

The entrepreneur, who produces 12 different flavours of Purely Pickled Eggs with her partner Dave Walker and their team, based in Stroud, Gloucestershire, is never afraid of a challenge.

She began fundraising for Bowel & Cancer Research last year because her best friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer and is still having treatment.

“I wanted to involve all of our brilliant pub customers and do something for World Egg Day to raise a bit of cash,” said Sue.

“Landlords love a quiz so we wrote a lot of eggy questions and gave pubs a week to take part in a Pub Quiz Eggstravaganza in exchange for a small donation” she added.

“Ei Publican Partnerships were really helpful in promoting it. We ended up with pubs all over the country taking part in the UK’s first PickledEggHeads Pub Quiz. Everyone had a lot of fun and we might make it an annual event.”

Kingsholm Inn in Gloucester were one of the participating pubs. Landlady, Gail Sutton, said, “There were seven teams and we all discovered a lot of unusual facts about eggs. For example, which planet has clouds that smell of rotten eggs? Uranus of course!”

The UK’s PickledEggHeads Pub Quiz Champions of 2018 were the Jacko Lanterns team at the Black Horse in Ipswich.

Sue thanked all the participants: “A huge thank you to all the pubs who participated and to their very generous customers. You have blown away our target of £500 with an amazing £753 collected.”

Our chief executive, Deborah Gilbert, thanked Sue and her team for their support:

“Our aim is to ensure that no one should die of bowel cancer and we can only move towards that goal with the help of our fantastic fundraisers.”
