When it comes to running, the Povey family is a force to be reckoned with.

Dad Andrew, his daughter Louisa and sons Mark and Nick are all used to notching up the miles.

And on March 25, Andrew, Louisa and Nick will be joined by Louisa’s partner Will Smith for the London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of someone they all hold dear – mum Gill Povey who lost her battle with bowel cancer in 2015, aged 59.

“We saw the London Landmarks advertised and knew we could all get together and do this in mum’s memory,” said Louisa, 26, from Twickenham. “I’ve always wanted to do the London Marathon but it’s a bit far! So this is a good alternative.”

Being junior doctors - Louisa at Frimley Park Hospital near Farnborough and Will at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey - means they have their work cut out when it comes to training.

“We’ve all struggled to fit the training around long days at work especially in the wet, dark winter months but we’re up for the challenge,” said Louisa.

Brother Nick, 30, got married in October so has had some catching up to do on the training front.

Dad Andrew, from Cranleigh, has kept running since tackling the Liverpool half marathon for us in 2014 and will be racing Louisa to the finish line.

“Mum would say we are all crazy, but she’d be very proud,” said Louisa.

Thanks to the research that these charities support, we had an extra three years with her as she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Our Chief Executive Deborah Gilbert thanked the Povey family for their support. “Our mission to ensure that no one should die of bowel cancer in future and we can only do that with the support of wonderful fundraisers.”
