Colleagues at Nottingham University Cancer Biology Unit have secured a grant of £438,478 from the Medical Research Council to further investigate a protein related to hypoxia (low oxygen) in tumours. The grant was made as a result of initial findings made possible by our funding of PhD student Hannah Bolland. We are really pleased that this work has been recognised because hypoxic tumours make treatment much more difficult and if could understand and remedy hypoxia it would have a clear benefit for people diagnosed with this type of tumour.
