Bringing together the wider research community, healthcare professionals, patients, their families, and those with an interest in bowel cancer and bowel disease is the ambition of Bowel & Cancer Research and Bowel Disease Research Foundation (BDRF).

On the 29th September 2020, the two charities will merge to become a leading player in the fight against bowel cancer and bowel disease

Over 42,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK and one million people live with bowel disease including chronic life-long conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) and incontinence.

The need to understand these diseases, the risk factors, and potential causes alongside identifying new ways to diagnose, treat, and manage them has never been more urgent.

Already responsible for investing over £9 million in research over the last ten years, the charities will join forces to build on their many achievements to date, funding and promoting ambitious, cutting edge, innovative research alongside investing in the next generation of researchers.

We will work closely with those interested in or affected by bowel cancer and bowel disease – disseminating the results of the research, promoting dialogue, “driving change” as a result of research outcomes, and campaigning for further investment in research.

The launch of the new charity offers the opportunity to celebrate the collective achievements and the important contribution both charities have made to improving the outlook for those diagnosed and living with bowel disease and bowel cancer alongside announcing our commitment to radically changing the landscape and ultimately the outlook for current and future generations through funding world-class research.

Further details on our launch plans will be relayed on our website and social media channels in the coming weeks.
