When 13-year-old Josh Keane became one of our regional ambassadors, he wasn’t sure what to expect.

But he has suddenly found himself lining up to compere a concert, thanks to the Wallasey Choir.

The 30 choristers offered to sing for free after one of their members, Christine Clougher, heard about Josh’s new role.

Josh’s mum Katie Keane, from Wallasey, Wirral, said things took off from there.

“The choir said they’d organise the venue and we offered to do the rest,” said Katie.

“We made leaflets and started selling tickets and it’s all happening. People have really rallied round – it’s been fantastic.

“One of my dad’s former colleagues, Cath Burgess, contacted local businesses for raffle prizes and in 24 hours we had all these great vouchers.

“All my old school friends have heard about it and say they’re coming. It’s very heartwarming.”

The concert featuring a programme of swing music takes place at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre in Hoylake Road, Wirral on September 28 at 7.30pm. And Josh, who is a pupil at Calday Grange Grammar School, will be helping to run things on stage.

The family are all part of team Bowel & Cancer Research.

His whole family have been fundraising for our cause after Josh’s granddad Bob Bell, a retired funeral director, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014.

Josh kicked things off with a cake sale when he was aged 10. Then Josh and his aunties Jeni Cox and Vicky Doherty (and others) did an abseil from Leasowe lighthouse. With the help of her sisters Vicky and Jeni, Katie has organised fundraising events, and joined Jeni in an organised a climb up Mount Snowdon.

Granddad Bob, 71, from Saughall Massie, Wirral, will be at the concert, watching proudly as their efforts come together on September 28.

Our Chief Executive Deborah Gilbert, thanked the Keane family and the Wallasey Choir for their support.

Josh and his family have been an inspiration. Our mission is to ensure that no one should die of bowel cancer in future and we can only accomplish that with the support of our fantastic fundraisers.

Anyone who wants to attend the concert tickets are priced at £5 subject to availability and can requested by contacting Katie
