We are proud to promote a first author paper from our funded PhD student, Danny Legge.

Danny worked at Bristol University with Professor Ann Williams between 2014 and 2017. He looked at the role of a protein, BCL3, in the early stages of tumour development. BCL3 was of particular interest as under normal conditions it plays an important role in both inflammation and the immune system.

Danny's work showed, for the first time, that BCL3 plays an important role in the regulation of other important gene interactions known to be common in bowel cancer. Excitingly these interactions occur at the very start of the development of bowel cancer and therefore will provide important targets for the development of future therapies.
