Peter J Lunniss

BSc MB BS FRCS FRCS (Gen)

Peter Lunniss graduated from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1983. Following basic surgical training he returned to London as Surgical Registrar at the London Hospital. After 3 years as Lecturer in Surgery at St. Bartholomew's and St. Mark's Hospitals, he was appointed Senior Registrar at the Royal London Hospital in 1994 during which time he spent time as RSO at St Mark's and Chief Resident at Mount Sinai in Toronto, Canada. He was appointed Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery in 1997. Mr Lunniss has a substantial tertiary referral practice for complex anorectal problems, mainly chronic sepsis. His specific areas of research interest are functional disorders of the hindgut and proctological disorders. He is the author of over 50 peer reviewed publications in medical journals, 25 book chapters and is the co-editor of the only book in the English language on the subject of anal fistula. He lectures on many national and international postgraduate colorectal teaching courses and has been the invited speaker at the Coloproctological Associations of 4 European countries.
