Gloria Freilich

Gloria was co-founder and Coordinating Director (1987-2000) of the breast cancer charity Cancerkin and then its Chief Executive until her retirement in 2008. Over the years, she introduced and developed information, support and rehabilitation programmes for patients and their families, as well as education and training programmes for health professionals.

From 1990-94, she served on the UICC Reach to Recovery International Committee (Geneva) with special responsibility for researching and promoting development of breast cancer peer support services and patient advocacy in Latin America.

In 1992, she introduced the American ?Look Good?Feel Better? programme to the UK, together with the Cosmetic, Perfumery and Toiletry Association. Launched at the Cancerkin Centre, Royal Free Hospital, the programme currently operates in 50 cancer centres and hospices. She was subsequently elected Hon. Vice President, UK Cosmetic, Perfumery and Toiletry Foundation.

From 1993?95, she chaired the international working party on setting up Europa Donna, the European Breast Cancer Coalition and served as its first elected President (1995-99).

She was a founder member of the biennial European Breast Cancer Conference and member of its governing body (VZW) 1996-2005, Gloria co-chaired EBCC1 (Florence 1998) and EBCC2 (Brussels 2000).

She was elected FRSA in 2006 and in 2008, after joined Bowel & Cancer Research as a trustee in 2008 following her retirement from Cancerkin.
