Kevin began in the plumbing industry at the age of 23 where he has since spent his entire working career. He recognised the potential for the use of plastics in this sector and formed Bartol Plastics Ltd in 1964 in order to develop and market a range of plastic, plumbing and drainage systems. He became the Managing Director of Hepworth Iron Company's Plastics Division after Hepworth acquired Bartol. In 1972 he left to form MacDee Plastics Ltd, a manufacturer of acrylic baths and cisterns. He was the founder of Polypipe plc in 1980, a company which made its debut on the Stock Exchange in 1985 valued at £11m. It was later acquired by IMI plc in 1999 for £337m at which point it employed over 3,500 people across Europe. In 1990 Kevin was appointed to the IMI plc main Board and named Yorkshire Businessman of the Year; he was also awarded an OBE in 1996.
