We want to fund research that has meaning for patients, their loved ones and carers. What better way to help ensure that this happens than involving people at every stage of the process – from formulating the original ideas through to the management of trials and other projects.
Since the end of 2012 Bowel & Cancer Research has been supporting this initiative whole-heartedly. The programme now has more than 60 active members who are consulted on a range of topics and are the first to know about opportunities to be involved in ground-breaking work.
Among other things, in 2013 members were involved in
- The design of a project looking at the specific needs of bowel cancer survivors
- The design and patient information aspects of a proposed Faecal Occult Blood testing kit
- The design of studies in constipation, diverticulosis and obesity
- UK wide consultation meetings on colorectal therapies
Over the next three years, we aim to increase the numbers of people participating from all over the UK and from all walks of life. By 2016 we’d like to have at least 300 people actively involved in research.
If you have been affected by a bowel condition, or know someone who has, we’d like you to join. Our current flyer can be downloaded here just complete and send back to us freepost. We hope to have online subscription available soon.
Importantly, you need NO MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE, just A DESIRE TO GET THINGS DONE AND AN INTEREST IN BOWEL DISEASE.
