Running your own event

People do all sorts of crazy things for charity and our supporters are no different. And doing events are great because they raise our profile as well as cash. During 2008, one of our supporters, Kelly Tomlinson will be biking around the USA to raise money for our research. You can be as adventurous as her or do something far closer to home. Our fundraising pack may help to give you some ideas as well as some pointers on what to watch out for and how to keep it legal.

You can set up your own page on the Just Giving site and your supporters can donate online. Just Giving will handle the transaction and the Gift Aid for us. They charge a small administration fee for doing this.

If you're thinking of fundraising by organising an event at work or through a group of which you are a member, a "captive audience" can be a real boost to fundraising!

During 2008, we'd like to set up some local fundraising groups. As well as raising money, groups would use their local knowledge to raise awareness of B&CR in the local area. If you have a good network locally, have the energy for events and are interested in becoming a local champion for B&CR then please contact us: mail@bowelcancerresearch.org.

Participating in an established event

Could You Manage a Marathon? Not Turn to Jelly at a Jump? Tingle at the thought of a Trek? All these and more are great ways of raising money. During 2008 two of our supporters are doing a trek of the Great Wall of China in memory of their friend who died of bowel cancer aged just 48. Each has set up a page on the Just Giving web site, which enables donations to be made on line. Just Giving also deals with all of the Gift Aid for us, which adds an extra 28p to every £1 donated.

If you're interested in taking part in an organised event, we'd love to hear from you: mail@bowelcancerresearch.org.
