A gift in your will or in memory of a loved one

A gift in your will

Firstly, everyone should have a will, it's the only way you can be sure that your loved ones are protected when you are no longer around. The complexity of family life and legislative changes make it vital too, to review your will at regular intervals. We would advise anyone making or updating their will to get in touch with a practising solicitor. More information on wills can be found at www.direct.gov.uk. You may like to check out a new service, TotallyFreeWills, designed to offer standard will making online, free of charge.

Once family and friends are remembered, a gift to B&CR - no matter what size - is invaluable. We received our first legacy gift of just over £100 in 2001 and in 2005 our largest gift to date of £120,000. Smaller gifts go towards supporting the maintenance of Colorectal Cancer Laboratory, without which we couldn't pursue our research. The gift in 2005 was instrumental in supporting our MACS project which we hope will make a real difference in the diagnosis and treatment of people who have this particularly aggressive form of bowel cancer.

In memory of a loved one

A gift to charity in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to remember someone. Often funeral directors will be helpful in indentifying ways in which you can request donations for B&CR and wil even take responsibility for collecting cheques and forwarding them on. If we are supplied with names and addresses, we will acknowledge all donations we receive.

We are pleased to be partnering with MuchLoved a charity that works for bereaved people worldwide, enabling them to create sensitive, personalised and lasting website memorials in memory of their loved ones. There is no charge to create or to maintain a tribute website, they can incorporate music, video and stills, and it is very easy to do.

Tribute sites can be accessed from anywhere in the world, bringing family and friends together who may be many thousands of miles apart to remember a loved one, share joyous memories and help each other through the grieving process. The site also incorporates an on-line donation facility enabling family and friends to donate, if they wish, to Bowel & Cancer Research.
